COMMUNITY BELONGING
Goal
Everyone has the opportunity to participate and feels welcome and included in their local community regardless of income level.
Why It Matters
A sense of belonging and connection is important for health, well-being, and quality of life. Barriers related to income, access, transportation, or discrimination can make it difficult for people to participate fully in community life. Creating inclusive spaces and opportunities helps strengthen communities and supports the well-being of everyone.
What We’re Doing
The Coalition works with community members and partners to:
- Support the development of free community spaces that encourage gathering, connection, and access to culture.
- Advocate for increased access to community spaces, including meeting spaces, kitchens, social spaces, gardens.
- Advocate for increased access to recreation and sport opportunities for children and youth living with low income.
- Encourage neighbourhood connections and community engagement.
- Support access to healthy foods and meals through community kitchen and community meal approaches.
- Advocate for safe and welcoming spaces where people can connect through shared experiences.
- Share information about programs and resources that foster community connection and belonging.
